African leaders discuss 'collective' withdrawal from ICC

ANC wants government to bail out poultry industry

African leaders are set to mull a motion that will recommend all 34 of the 55 AU member states that are part of the International Criminal Court, withdraw from it.

The discussion is set to be on the table today, on the final day of the AU heads of states assembly.

Last week’s meeting of foreign ministers discussed the matter in detail, and came up with eight recommendations, the last being that the AU adopts a strategy for withdrawal.

South Africa is one of the countries supporting such a withdrawal.


The ANC yesterday said it had resolved that government should buy struggling but productive poultry farms in a bid to save jobs and increase food security and production.

South African chicken producers, including Rainbow Chicken, are set to retrench more than 3 500 workers in one of the largest industry jobs bloodbaths as they struggle under heavy competition from cheap imported chickens from European Union countries.

 

Parliament's ad hoc committee investigating the fitness of the SABC board to hold office is expected to continue today.

During the sitting the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa is expected to discuss the monitoring of the implementation of its compliance and complaints committee ruling on the SABC's ban on broadcasting violent protests.

The ad hoc committee adopted its final draft report just before lunch last Friday.
