Making headlines:

Turnout at voter registration stations commended

You can still register to vote if you missed the registration weekend

And, Malema says he has forgiven Zuma

 

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Zweli Mkhize has commended the turnout of potential voters who went to register at over 22 000 registration stations this weekend.

Mkhize said the Independent Electoral Commission reported a good turnout of potential voters.

The African National Congress said it was encouraged by the turn-out of those who went to register, adding that it was also encouraged that the vast majority of those who registered were young people.

 

If you couldn’t make to the registration stations this past weekend, you can still check your details or register to vote at your local IEC office during office hours until the election date is proclaimed by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Proclamation of the election date is expected in February and South Africans are urged to register with their IDs at their nearest IEC office as soon as possible.

You can find your nearest IEC branch online at elections.org.za and if you have already registered but moved since the last election, you can change your address online at elections.org.za.

 

EFF leader Julius Malema has said that a church service has moved him to forgive former president Jacob Zuma.

Malema attended a service at the Apostolic Faith Mission River of Life.

Speaking after the service, he said the sermon had been about forgiveness.

During Zuma's presidency, EFF MPs consistently challenged the former president in Parliament, calling for him to pay back money from his Nkandla homestead security upgrades.

The new developments seem to indicate a thawing of the relationship between Malema and Zuma.
