Parliament said yesterday that the true cost of the State of the Nation Address amounted to R4-million and not R11-million like the DA alleged.

DA's parliamentary Chief Whip John Steenhuisen said replies to questions following Sona revealed that the cost of the 2017 edition reached R11-million.

Parliament said a factual study in this regard was being conducted to expose the actual statistical economic impact including tourism, economic development and job creation.

 

The South African Communist Party says calls for Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to be fired are "factional palace politics".

SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande said as ministers they don’t like being shouted at from the streets to be removed.

The SACP said most of the discussions at the gathering were related to the “continued worrying turbulence and factionalism within the ANC-headed movement”.
Nzimande could not be drawn to comment on a reshuffle.


President Jacob Zuma paid a surprise visit to the ANC Youth League KZN provincial congress on Saturday.

The three-day congress, which was held at Olive Convention Centre, culminated yesterday under new leadership.

Zuma told the congress that the event was for the youth and he expected them to take the lead.

He encouraged the newly-elected provincial leader to be honourable and lead by example.
