President Jacob Zuma has called for restraint ahead of the planned march against foreign nationals which is being organised by a group calling itself the Mamelodi Concerned Residents today.

Violence directed at foreign nationals in Tshwane had seen houses and businesses being looted and set alight by residents who were protesting against the proliferation of brothels and drug dens as well as lack of jobs they say have been taken up by illegal immigrants.

 

The EFF leader Julius Malema will today appear before the Newcastle Magistrate's Court for calling on supporters to invade unoccupied land.

Malema, who had already been charged twice in Newcastle and in Bloemfontein, under the Riotous Assemblies Act, is to now be charged under common law, making this his first appearance for the matter.

 

The KwaZulu-Natal ANC Youth League will elect new leaders at its 9th provincial congress, which gets underway in Durban today.

Youth League president Collen Maine would open the event around 2pm where a total of 1 400 voting delegates were expected from branches across 11 regions in the province.
