Mashatile says Zuma can’t tell the ANC what to do

The ANC will not take instructions on what to do from one of its deployees, including President Jacob Zuma, says its treasurer general Paul Mashatile.

In a leaked audio clip of a meeting Mashatile had with investors at the Mining Indaba, the treasurer general can be heard assuring investors that a bid to remove Zuma would result in certainty that would allow the country's economy to grow and the creation of jobs.

Mashatile was addressing the business community on Tuesday, ahead of the ANC's urgent national executive committee meeting on Wednesday that was later cancelled.

De Lille files urgent application over motion of no confidence against her

City of Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has launched an urgent application in the Western Cape High Court in an effort to ensure that members of the DA caucus are free to vote according to their conscience in the upcoming motion of no confidence against her.

The party announced that its federal executive had authorised a motion of no confidence against De Lille which is scheduled for February 15.

In a statement released yesterday, De Lille said she demanded that it be done by secret ballot.

2.5-million grant recipients don't have IDs to access grants

Roughly 2.5-million beneficiaries of the South African Social Security Agency will not be able to get their grant payments if the contract with Cash Paymaster Services is not extended, the agency argued in court papers.

Sassa filed papers to the Constitutional Court on Wednesday requesting an extension of six months in its contract with CPS.

In an affidavit, acting CEO Pearl Bengu states that 2.5-million of the agency's benefactors do not have personal identification numbers to access grants through a national payment system.
