President Jacob Zuma yesterday downplayed the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle following months of speculation that he would fire some ministers after a failed bid to remove him as leader of the ruling party.

The president of Africa's most industrialised economy faced a revolt from inside the ANC in November after an anti-corruption watchdog called for a judicial inquiry into alleged influence-peddling in Zuma's government.

 

The Save South Africa campaign will host a People's Assembly on the “real” State of the Nation Address in Cape Town today.

Save SA convener Sipho Pityana said the event was designed to allow South Africans to share their grievances about the current African National Congress government.

The campaign said the official Sona would deny the real problems facing South Africans, including service delivery, the economy, political unrest, and corruption.

Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga said yesterday that government departments and residents owe the City of Tshwane nearly R9-billion for services.

He said of this amount, as at June 30, 2016, an estimated R5.9-billion, or 68%, was uncollectable.

The DA took control of the metro from the ANC after the August 3 local government elections.
