Ex-correctional services boss Linda Mti out on R20 000 bail

Former correctional services commissioner Linda Mti has been granted R20 000 bail.

Mti appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Thursday for corruption after he handed himself over to police.

On Wednesday, the Hawks arrested former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi, former correctional services CFO Patrick Gillingham, Bosasa official Andries van Tonder, fomer Bosasa senior manager Frans Vorster and current Bosasa staff member, Carlos Bonafacio in connection with allegations of corruption, money laundering and fraud.

Finance minister appoints panel to interview candidates for post of Sars chief

Finance minister Tito Mboweni has appointed a panel to interview a shortlist of candidates for the vacant post of commissioner of the South African Revenue Service, his office said today.

The finance ministry said in a statement Mboweni was overseeing the initial steps of the appointment process, and will submit the panel’s recommendations to the president for his consideration.

The process to appoint a new commissioner takes into account the recommendations made by the Nugent Commission probing tax administration and governance at Sars. 

 

The race for Nigeria's presidency in 2019

Nigerians will on February 16 choose between President Muhammadu Buhari and former vice president Atiku Abubakar for President.

The pair have run for president nine times between them.

After spending five months in Britain in 2017 receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment, opposition groups and other critics said Buhari was unfit for office and his administration was beset by inertia. But the president has said he is strong enough to serve.
