Former AU commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma officially launched her ANC presidential campaign yesterday.

Although she did not directly speak about accepting the nomination to run for president, a church service hosted by the Faith Ministry Church and the ANC Women’s League was seen as setting off her campaign since her return from Addis Ababa.

Dlamini-Zuma said Africa needed more women presidents.

Detained Zimbabwe protest pastor Evan Mawarire says he is being well treated in the maximum security prison in Harare where he is being held – but state media called him a "charlatan" who was past "sell-by date".

The 39 year old pastor was arrested on Wednesday for insulting the national flag and trying to overthrow President Robert Mugabe's government.

His #ThisFlag protest movement said he was grateful for all the prayers, support and encouragement and had reassured his supporters that he was at peace and had been treated well during his detention.

The Congress of the People yesterday lambasted the extraordinary security measures introduced by Parliament – for the first time – for President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation address scheduled for Thursday evening.

Cope spokesperson Dennis Bloem said it was disrespectful and undermined the dignity and integrity of guests, staff, media, and everyone else who would be entering the parliamentary precinct, that they would be subjected to intelligence security screening on the day.
