Parliament to start processing Classen report on Phiyega

ANC Women’s League slam’s Afriforum’s private prosecution unit

And, new SARS legal head was named in State of Capture report

Parliament's portfolio committee on police will process the report into former national commissioner Riah Phiyega's fitness to hold office in March, it decided at a meeting yesterday.

This was because President Jacob Zuma was still going through it, and also due to a review application by Phiyega on the contents of the report.

The report, compiled by Judge Neels Claassen, stated that Phiyega was not fit to hold office and recommended that she should be dismissed.

The African National Congress Women’s League has slammed the announcement by rights group Afriforum that it was to set up a private prosecutorial unit.

The ANC women’s league said the establishment of the unit undermined the spirit of unity in South Africa by “promoting Afrikaner supremacy”.

Celebrated State prosecutor Gerrie Nel dropped a bombshell this week when he suddenly resigned from the National Prosecuting Authority and then announced that he was joining Afriforum to establish the unit.

The new executive in charge of legal affairs at South African Revenue Service was named in the Public Protector's State of Capture report as part of a team that made a submission recommending that Eskom give a tender to controversial Gupta company, Tegeta.

Advocate Neo Tsholanku was made the acting chief officer of legal counsel at Sars on Wednesday.

Tegeta's purchase of Optimum from Glencore has been muddied by allegations of political interference and favouritism.
