EFF prepared to 'raise issues' about 'illegitimate president' at Sona

The EFF is preparing to "raise their issues" with President Jacob Zuma at the State of the Nation Address next Thursday and vowed that it will not be business as usual for what they call an "illegitimate president".

This, after Parliament's presiding officers yesterday morning said there will be no special sitting to debate a motion of no confidence against Zuma before the Sona, as the EFF had requested.

The DA asked that Sona be postponed until Zuma is removed as state president, but the presiding officers also didn't accede to this request.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of the subcommittee of Parliament's rules committee, which is working on rules to impeach a president, EFF MP and spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said what they were asking for – a motion of no confidence before Thursday – was not impossible. If this was not done, they would have to take the matter to the Sona, he said.

Zuma to meet ANC top six "over his future"

South African President Jacob Zuma will meet the top six officials of the ANC this weekend over his future, adding to speculation that Zuma could be removed as head of state.

Scandal-plagued Zuma has faced calls from within the ANC to step down since deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa succeeded him as leader of the party in December. Ramaphosa would then be his natural successor.

The ANC has previously said it has discussed Zuma resigning before the end of his term in mid-2019, although his staunch supporters within the party say that will not happen.

Zuma is currently battling a string of corruption allegations and Ramaphosa has in recent weeks pledged to make tackling graft one of his top priorities.

And, Msimanga takes to the streets 'declaring war' on all crime

Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga took to the streets yesterday with law enforcement in what he has called the “declaration of war” on crime and drugs.

Forming part of Operation Tswelopele, Msimanga along with the Tshwane Metro Police Department, home affairs officials and members of the mayoral committee raided several suspected drug dens and brothels in Pretoria West.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said two suspects in total were arrested for possession of drugs and dealing and one person was arrested for fraud.

The mayor also raided a number of properties which had illegally built dwellings on the property.
