Mthembu supports calls for investigations into MultiChoice

The ANC's head of the sub-committee on communications Jackson Mthembu agrees with calls for an investigation into claims that pay-TV MultiChoice bought influence over the government’s digital migration policy, through payments to the South African Broadcasting Corporation and Africa News Network 7.

Mthembu was speaking to journalists at the ANC’s Luthuli House headquarters, yesterday.

His comments come amid fears that MultiChoice and its parent company Naspers could face a class action in the US after a law firm there announced that it was investigating the companies on behalf of its investors.

Graça Machel says South Africans should take back their country

South Africans must choose a new crop of leaders that will stand with those who liberated the country, late president Nelson Mandela's wife Graça Machel said.

Machel was speaking at an event held in honour of Mandela in Houghton at the Nelson Mandela Foundation yesterday.

She said in 2018 South Africans should having some kind of clarity as to who the new crop of leaders will be.

Machel was speaking shortly after Sello Hatang, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, took to the podium to highlight how the ANC had failed Mandela's legacy.

Maimane says Public Protector report into Vrede dairy farm project delayed because of ANC conference

The DA leader Mmusi Maimane has questioned whether the Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane was deliberately withholding the release of a report into the Vrede dairy farm project, ahead of the upcoming ANC elective conference.

Speaking at the Public Protector's offices in Pretoria yesterday, Maimane was accompanied by several beneficiaries of the Vrede dairy project.

He said he would be meeting with Mkhwebane to demand that the report be released.

The Vrede dairy project in the Free State came under the spotlight after it emerged that R30-million, which was supposed to go to the Vrede dairy project, was diverted through a web of Gupta-related companies to allegedly pay for the wedding of Vega Gupta and Aakash Jahajgarhia in 2013.
