Patricia De Lille announces name of new party

Patricia De Lille yesterday announced that the name of her new political party is "GOOD".

De Lille said the party is a rallying call to GOOD South Africans to resuscitate the project of optimism and reconciliation.

A former Cape Town mayor, De Lille recently resigned from the Democratic Alliance, following 18 months of acrimony between her and that party she joined when it merged with the Independent Democratics which she founded and led, in 2010.

 

New NPA boss to be announced on Tuesday

The new head of the National Prosecuting Authority is expected to be announced tomorrow by president Cyril Ramaphosa.

The nominees are advocates Shamila Batohi, Siyabulela Mapoma, Simphiwe Mlotshwa, Rodney de Kock, and Andrea Johnson.

The announcement follows the consideration of the five nominees shortlisted by an advisory panel chaired by Energy Minister Jeff Radebe.

South Africa faces more power cuts, raising Ramaphosa reform risk

South Africa faces more power cuts, electricity utility Eskom warned today as it sought to prevent the collapse of its power grid in a test for President Cyril Ramaphosa's reforms.

Eskom implemented a fifth day of controlled power cuts on Monday, putting more strain on an economy already mired in recession only months before a national election.

Power utility’s spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said the entire week could be severely constrained if Eskom is unable to replenish the diesel and water reserves, and reduce the high unplanned outages
