FF Plus behind Msimanga as Tshwane vote of no confidence looms

The Freedom Front Plus expressed its support for beleaguered Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga on the eve of a motion of no confidence in him.

FF Plus councillor and mayoral committee member Sakkie du Plooy said his party in the Tshwane metro council supports Msimanga's decision to investigate allegations of irregularities in the Glad Africa contract in which the municipal manager Dr Moeketsi Mosola is involved.

He said the FF Plus will therefore also vote against the motion of no confidence [in] the mayor that the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters will bring at today's council meeting.

ConCourt to rule on Bathabile Dlamini's liability in social grants case

The Constitutional Court is expected to rule today on whether former social development minister Bathabile Dlamini should be held personally liable for legal costs incurred in the social grants debacle.

This, after the court ordered in March last year that Dlamini should explain why she should not personally pay the legal costs of the social grants case.

Justice Johan Froneman also made another order three months later – that further investigation be conducted into holding Dlamini personally liable.

The dark cloud hanging over Dlamini's head dates back to 2014, when the court ruled that the contract the South African Social Security Agency had signed with social grants distributor Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) two years prior was illegal and invalid.

Maseko tells commission that the Hawks were ready to charge Zuma, Gupta brother

Former government spokesperson Themba Maseko told the commission of inquiry into State capture yesterday that the Hawks had told him they were ready to charge former president Jacob Zuma and Ajay Gupta by April this year.

Maseko said around April this year, he got a call from the Hawks requesting a meeting with him to take the matter forward.

Maseko added the Hawks informed him that the matter had been handed over to a new team of investigators preparing to take the matter to court, and they were looking at charging Ajay Gupta and President Jacob Zuma and wanted to go through two affidavits.

Weeks later, they told him the matter was in "abeyance" after the Hawks’ raid on the Gupta mansion in Saxonwold in February.
