SABC board shortlist could be known by end of today

Members of Parliament are today expected to begin the arduous task of shortlisting 36 candidates to be interviewed for board positions available for the cash-strapped South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Parliament’s portfolio committee on Communications received 363 applications for the 12 positions available on the board.

A five-member interim board is currently overseeing the public broadcaster after the previous board was dissolved following a parliamentary inquiry which found serious governance problems and financial mismanagement, among others.

Zuma signs Financial Sector Regulation Act into law

President Jacob Zuma has signed the Financial Sector Regulation Act, 2017 into law, the Presidency said yesterday.

The Presidency said that the Act establishes two new financial sector regulators, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Prudential Authority with jurisdiction over all financial institutions, and to provide them with a range of supervisory tools to fulfil their objectives.

The Presidency said that the Act makes provision for and ensures that there is co-operation and collaboration between the financial sector regulators, the National Credit Regulator, the Financial Intelligence Centre and the South African Reserve Bank.

And, ANC KZN Lower South Coast says Ramaphosa deserves to be president

The ANC KwaZulu-Natal Lower South Coast region is backing Cyril Ramaphosa to succeed President Jacob Zuma at the party's elective conference in December.

Secretary of the region, Mzwandile Mkhwanazi said that they see Ramaphosa as a capable leader and it was not fair that one could only be a leader if they are from KwaZulu-Natal. Ramaphosa deserves to be the president of the country, they said.

He was addressing hundreds of ANC cadres at the Esayidi TVET College's Gamalakhe campus.

The region is backing Ramaphosa to succeed Zuma, despite the provincial executive committee, led by ANC KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Sihle Zikalala, backing former AU chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to succeed her ex-husband.
