Gordhan praises Ramaphosa, backs State capture inquiry
Zimbabwe has met all conditions to clear arrears to World Bank, AfDB
And, alleged ‘coup plotter’ set to make first appearance

Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan yesterday said a judicial commission of inquiry into allegations of State capture would “clear the air”.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa recently called for the same thing, supporting a recommendation by former public protector Thuli Madonsela for a judicial commission of inquiry into the Gupta family's alleged attempts to capture the State.

On Sunday, Ramaphosa launched a stinging attack on Zuma and the Gupta family in a speech that was interpreted as the unofficial launch of his campaign for the ANC's presidency.

Zimbabwe has met all conditions to clear arrears to the World Bank and African Development Bank, paving the way for possible future funding from the International Monetary Fund, its finance minister said yesterday.

The Southern African nation in October last year cleared its 15-year-old financial arrears with the IMF, in a major step towards its first loan programme with the fund since 1999.

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa said that facilities negotiated by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to repay the arrears had been scrutinised by the World Bank and AfDB, who were satisfied.

A man who allegedly plotted to assassinate officials perceived as State capture beneficiaries is set to make his first appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today.

The man, 23, was arrested in Midrand on Wednesday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and other charges.

The Hawks said it had, in October last year intercepted communication material of possible assassinations which were being planned where various members of Cabinet, State-owned entities and prominent South Africans were listed as targets.
