Ramaphosa cuts short UK visit to resolve Mahikeng chaos

President Cyril Ramaphosa cut short his visit to the UK to hold an urgent meeting with ANC leaders over the protests in Mahikeng in the North West, which have centred around dissatisfaction over premier Supra Mahumapelo's leadership.

A statement from the presidency said Ramaphosa was expected to address the meeting in the North West today accompanied by ANC secretary general Ace Magashule, deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte and ANC NEC members.

The meeting in Mahikeng would be convened with structures of the ANC, the Leagues, Alliance and the ANC Caucus in the North West province.

Police commissioner pledges full support for State capture probe

The Hawks have police National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Khehla Sitole's "undivided support" in ensuring they have the necessary means to investigate State capture, he told the Portfolio Committee on Police yesterday.

Committee chairperson Francois Beukman had asked whether, given that there was a major focus on State capture, additional resources from the police budget had been allocated to the Hawks.

Sithole said he was supporting the Hawks and added that it was part of the business case the police were taking to Treasury.

The tiny African kingdom of Swaziland is changing its name. The kingdom will now be known by it's historic name of eSwatini.

King Mswati III made the announcement yesterday during celebrations of the country's 50th anniversary of independence and his 50th birthday celebrations.

Many African countries on independence “reverted to their ancient, native names,” he said.

The name of eSwatini has been used before in the past at openings of parliament and other events.
