MKMVA members descend on Luthuli House ahead of anti-Zuma protest
Wits 'deeply concerned' about state of SA
And, SACP postpones its Friday march

Members of Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association descended outside Luthuli House in central Johannesburg early today to defend the ANC ahead of DA’s “March for Change” protest.

At least 200 MKMVA members in their military fatigue were seen singing struggle songs and marching up and down outside the ANC headquarters from as early as 6am after being bussed in with six busses, some from as far as Zululand.

This comes as DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, is set to lead a “March for Change” through the streets of the Johannesburg city centre calling for President Jacob Zuma to step down following his recent Cabinet reshuffle.

The University of the Witwatersrand Senate has expressed “deep concern” about the state of the country and the effect of corruption on education funding.

The university said yesterday that political events have exposed the scale of the current social and economic crisis in South Africa.

Mismanagement of public funds and corrupt practices have a direct impact on access to education and on the quality of education from early childhood to tertiary level.

Universities were already reeling from under-funding of the sector, and this would now worsen.

The South African Communist Party in Gauteng has postponed its march in Pretoria on Friday because the City of Tshwane declared it illegal.

The party said yesterday that this followed a correspondence received from the City of Tshwane declaring the march illegal based on a clear directive it received from National Treasury which strangely refused to receive the SACP’s memorandum of demands.

The march would take place in two weeks.
