President initiates remedial action on Mogajane appointment

The Presidency has informed the Office of the Public Protector that President Cyril Ramaphosa has initiated remedial action in line with the report of the Public Protector on the appointment of National Treasury Director General Dondo Mogajane.
 
In December last year, the Public Protector issued a "Report on the Investigation of Improper Conduct Regarding Mogajane's Application for the position of Director-General at National Treasury and his subsequent appointment to the same position by the National Treasury".
 
The Public Protector found that Mogajane had failed to disclose a criminal record on the Z83 application form he completed for the position of Director-General at the National Treasury and that this failure constituted impropriety or dishonesty, and amounted to improper conduct.

 

DA calls for parliamentary debate on Eskom

As Eskom resumed load-shedding, the DA on Monday demanded a parliamentary debate on the crisis gripping the power utility.

Senior DA MP Natasha Mazzone said it was imperative that the debate take place before Thursday, when President Cyril Ramaphosa will reply to the debate on the State of the nation address he delivered last week.

The power utility, which instituted Stage 2 load shedding at 09:00 on Monday, said it had been forced to move to Stage 4 after it unexpectedly lost six additional generating units.

 

Vytjie Mentor returns to State capture inquiry

Former ANC parliamentarian Vytjie Mentor returns to the stand at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State capture today to finish her testimony and be cross-examined. 

In 2016, she revealed how former president Jacob Zuma and his government were under the control of the fugitive Gupta family.

Mentor subsequently gave her explosive testimony at the commission in August last year, implicating the Guptas, Zuma, his son Duduzane, businessman Fana Hlongwane, and former Zuma aide Lakela Kaunda.

Commission chairperson Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo granted those implicated by Mentor, except the Guptas, permission to cross-examine the ex-MP.
