Sassa asks ConCourt for direction over CPS contract

And, ANC says EFF expropriation motion is premature

 

Following a day of grilling over its fruitless and wasteful expenditure and the status of its contract with Cash Payment Services, Sassa has lodged papers requesting direction from the Constitutional Court on Tuesday.

Activist group Black Sash also indicated its intention to lodge an application with the same court in a bid to compel Sassa and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini to ensure that grant beneficiaries would still be protected come March 31.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will today be grilled on the national minimum wage, state-owned South African Airways and the deployment of extra security personnel in Parliament during the State of the Nation Address.

Among the six points he is expected to address is a question from ANC MP Fezeka Loliwe who will ask Ramaphosa about the proposed figure of R3 500 per month as the minimum wage while DA leader will ask about the decision to "deploy extra stringent security measures to the Parliamentary precinct" for Sona.

 

The ANC does not agree with any form of land expropriation without compensation in the country, the party's chief whip's spokesperson said.

This was after the EFF tabled a motion in the National assembly yesterday calling for the amendment of the Constitution to accelerate land transformation.

In a statement, Nonceba Mhlauli said the EFF's motion was misplaced and overlooked various programmes and reviews currently underway.
