Public Protector Thuli Madonsela says her office will be taking legal action against the SABC board following the appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng to a senior executive position.

During a press conference on Tuesday, it was announced that Motsoeneng would go back to his former job as Group Executive of Corporate Affairs. Madonsela said her office would send an enquiry to the board before making a decision.

 

Kenya has become the first country in the world to roll out child-friendly medicines for children suffering from Tuberculosis.

The Kenya Ministry of Health, together with TB Alliance and other partners launched the child-friendly TB medicines in Nairobi on Tuesday, making Kenya the first country in the world to roll out these products nationally.

The improved medicines are easier for caregivers to give and for children to take, and are expected to help improve treatment and child survival from TB.

Tuberculosis is a major killer of children. According to the Ministry of Health, in 2015, Kenya reported nearly 7,000 cases of TB in infants and children, with those under the age of five at greatest risk of having severe forms of TB and dying from the disease.

The World Health Organization (WHO), records that at least one million children suffer from TB each year and 140,000 children die of this curable and preventable disease globally.

 

Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande on Tuesday, said that the student protests are part of the Economic Freedom Fighters’ agenda to destabilise and discredit the ANC-led government.

Nzimande was speaking after several protesting students stormed into the main entrance of his department’s office during a media briefing with the interim board of convocations and alumni, to discuss the ongoing protests at universities across the country.

EFF student command president, Mpho Morolane, blasted Nzimande’s comments.

Morolane said the party might be in support of the #FeesMustFall campaign but he insisted that the movement was supported by students from all races.
