Making headlines:
Occupy Luthuli House mishandled by ANC leadership
Scathing judgment against Jiba and Mrwebi
And, Maimane looks forward to Gupta report

Long-serving African National Congress member Sipho Pityana says the ANC leadership failed in its handling of the Occupy Luthuli House demonstration.

The youngsters who decided to take a stand and make their feelings about the president of the ANC heard are very inspiring, said Pityana, even though he didn't agree with their strategic approach to the campaign. The demonstration was held on September 5.

He also urged other members of the ANC to learn from those who took a stand, claiming it was time to pick up from where they left off.

Pityana shocked many when he made an impassioned plea for Zuma to step down at Reverend Makhenkhesi Stofile's funeral last month, claiming he was a man without integrity and thus not fit to continue serving the country as its first citizen.

He also criticised leaders in the ANC for being in denial about both the state of the party and South Africa.

Two of South Africa's most senior prosecutions officials, Nomgcobo Jiba and her colleague Lawrence Mrwebi, were struck off the roll of advocates of the General Council of the Bar of South Africa on Thursday over their handling of the Richard Mdluli matter.

In a scathing 109-page judgment Judge Frans Legodi wrote that he could not believe that two officers of the court who held such high positions in the prosecuting authority would stoop so low for the protection and defence of one individual who had been implicated in serious offences.

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane on Thursday welcomed outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s announcement that a report on the Guptas would be ready before her term ends.

The role of the Guptas in the government’s business went further than what met the eye, he said.

On Wednesday, Madonsela told journalists that while she could not guarantee a comprehensive report, she would have it available before she left office in October.
