The National Prosecuting Authority will consider its approach and make a decision at a later stage regarding the so-called spy tapes, NPA head Shaun Abrahams has said.

Addressing Parliament's justice committee on Wednesday, Abrahams said the Constitutional Court had issued an order that it was not in the interests of justice to hear the NPA at this stage.

They had not yet had a chance to make a decision following the Supreme Court of Appeal's decision on Wednesday that President Jacob Zuma's lawyers must argue why he should be granted leave to appeal against a High Court ruling that he should face corruption charges.

Earlier this year, a full bench of the High Court in Pretoria overturned the NPA's decision to drop 783 corruption charges against Zuma. It ordered that the charges be reinstated. In June, the High Court denied the NPA leave to appeal.

Members of Parliament let Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande off the hook on Wednesday after his request to answer their questions on the ongoing fees crisis in writing was granted.

Nzimande and his department appeared before a joint meeting of both the National Assembly and National Council of Province's higher education committees to address its 2015/16 performance.

Nzimande said he didn't want the department to be accused of dodging its constitutional obligation to answer for the 2015/16 report.

He said it wasn't the appropriate forum to answer questions on the current fees crisis, and accused "certain members" of political grandstanding.

The minister had earlier said in his presentation that despite the systemic challenges faced by the universities, there had been improvement in outputs in 2015/16.

The African National Congress Youth League cannot wait for outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s last day at the office, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Referring to her as a "national drama queen with low self-esteem", national spokesperson Mlondi Mkhize said they would be using the Access to Information Act to force the newly-appointed Public Protector to immediately make details available of the telephone calls made by Madonsela.

They accused Madonsela of trying to topple President Jacob Zuma.

They also called for Madonsela to honour Zuma’s request to interrogate some of the witnesses who gave evidence in the state capture probe.
