ANC NEC refers VBS matter to NWC, reiterates support for state capture inquiry

The ANC's national executive committee has tasked its national working committee with paving the way forward on the VBS scandal.

Some of the party’s officials in Limpopo, including the deputy provincial chairperson Florence Radzilani and treasurer Danny Msiza, were implicated in a damning report by Advocate Terry Motau and law firm Werksmans attorneys, which looked into the collapse of the mutual bank.

The ANC’s integrity commission recommended last week that its members implicated in the scandal step down.

The Department of Public Enterprises says SAA should prepare for equity partner

The Department of Public Enterprises said yesterday that struggling State-run South African Airways should reduce its cost base and prepare for a strategic equity partner in the near future.  

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni said last week that SAA, which had not generated a profit since 2011 and survives on state guarantees, was unlikely to find a private sector equity partner and should be closed down.

Meanwhile, the Public Enterprises ministry said the airline should stop all fraudulent contracts, address its cost base, discipline those implicated in corruption and prepare for an equity partner.

 

AfriForum granted order to seize Malema and EFF's assets

Civil rights organisation AfriForum has obtained a warrant to seize movable assets belonging to the Economic Freedom Fighters and its leader Julius Malema to settle a debt.

The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria granted the order to recover R337 758 in legal fees.

The cost orders emanate from a North Gauteng High Court case brought by AfriForum against Malema in its bid to stop the red berets from inciting people to grab land.
