Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela believed Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas was prejudiced by the “conduct of President Jacob Zuma” after investigating state capture claims.

She said Jonas would be regarded as a “liar and publicly humiliated” unless he was vindicated in his claims that Ajay Gupta offered him the position of finance minister with Zuma’s knowledge.

Zuma denied such an offer.

Madonsela said the citizens of the country would lose faith in an open, democratic, and accountable government if Zuma’s denials were proven to be false.

This was one of her observations in her long-awaited report on “state capture”, released  yesterday following a court order.

 

President Jacob Zuma is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe today after he delayed his departure yesterday in the wake of #StateCapture.

Zuma was to attend the inaugural session of the Bi-National Commission, media reports said. Several  ministers arrived in the southern African country ahead of him.

President Robert Mugabe and Zuma will co-chair the commission, which required that the heads of state meet annually to monitor progress on the implementation of agreed projects.

Established on April 8, 2015, the BNC was set up to steer bilateral relations between the neighbouring countries, while seeking ways to promote and enhance co-operation in various sectors within the two governments.

 

The African National Congress Women’s League yesterday called for a “full investigation” into state capture that should include white monopoly capital.

The Women’s League noted the release of the “State of Capture ” report and would comment once it had studied it, secretary general Meokgo Matuba said in a statement.

She appealed to the ANC-led government to make resources available to the public protector’s office to start a full investigation immediately.
