South Africa's Constitutional Court will rule on Thursday whether President Jacob Zuma should pay back some of the R240-million spent by the state on renovating his Nkandla home.

Following months of political pressure, he agreed in February to foot part of the bill for the building work at the compound, in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

Should the court find Zuma violated the constitution, the opposition would be likely to push for his impeachment in parliament although the ANC’s majority would almost certainly protect him.

 

West Africa's Ebola outbreak no longer constitutes a threat to international public health, the World Health Organization said on Tuesday, declaring an end to a nearly 20-month emergency that has killed about 11 300 people.

Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO director-general, accepted the recommendations of a committee of independent experts who also called for lifting any travel and trade restrictions affecting Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

 

EFF leader Julius Malema will graduate from the University of South Africa on Wednesday with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a major in political science.

Malema will attend the graduation ceremony in Pretoria, at the Unisa main campus, on Wednesday evening. He has already enrolled for his honours degree.
