Acting national police commissioner Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane is expected to brief the media today on the recent robbery at the offices of the chief justice in Midrand. Phahlane said at the weekend that a multi-disciplinary task team was investigating the robbery that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A total of 15 computers containing confidential information of all the South African judges, judiciary staff and all the courts were stolen from the office.

Phahlane said a team led by deputy provincial commissioner of crime detection in Gauteng, Major General Mary Motsepe, had been appointed to expedite the processing of the crime scene.

 

Zimbabwean authorities have reportedly given the South African government a 'thumbs up' for its efforts in ending xenophobic violence.

There were several incidents last month of locals attacking migrants from Africa - and elsewhere - and their businesses in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Many locals alleged that the targets were brothels and drug dens being run by migrants from elsewhere in Africa, including Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgar Mbwembwe, said that a number of initiatives were being taken by South Africa authorities to prevent violence against foreign nationals.

 

Human rights will always be incomplete without land, the Economic Freedom Fighters said yesterday.

In commemoration of the Sharpeville, Langa and Uitenhage massacres, the party again called for expropriation of land without compensation.

Spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said “Human rights day was an assertion that until there was justice and equality in relation to land and until the dignity of Black people was restored through access to land, any human rights attained was incomplete,”.
