Acting DA Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela says former party leader Helen Zille's controversial tweets about colonialism yesterday may result in a loss of voter support.

He said the comments had a negative impact to the people the DA  were trying to attract.

Madikizela said he, like many other DA members, was also offended by Zille's remarks.

The ANC hopes its members will avoid friction among themselves in the lead up to its 54th national conference, says party treasurer general Zweli Mkhize.

He made the comments to journalists on the sidelines at the Gordon Institute of Business Science after participating in a discussion with students on ethics and governance.

The members must find a formula that will unite the ANC, he said.

The Constitutional Court today ordered that Cash Paymaster Services should continue paying welfare grants to some 11-million South Africans for another year, on the same terms set out in its current contract that expires in two weeks.

In a majority judgment written by Judge Johan Froneman, the court said it was acting to safeguard a constitutional right and avert “a catastrophe”.

Froneman said it was compelled to do so, because the executive had failed in its constitutional duty, and ordered that Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini furnish the court with reasons as to why she should not be held personally liable for the cost of the case.
