Molefe files urgent application over PRASA board dissolution
Cosatu gives Dlamini a week to resign or face 'massive protest'
And, ANC says Sars must help clamp down on defaulting NSFAS beneficiaries

Former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa chairperson Popo Molefe has filed an urgent application to the High Court in Johannesburg to have the decision to dissolve the PRASA board by the Minister of Transport set aside.

Molefe, along with the other directors of PRASA who have been fired, has approached the court to review or declare the board's dissolution unlawful, reinstate the directors to their former positions, and prevent an interim board from being appointed.

Cosatu has given Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini just over a week to resign, failing which the trade union would lead a “massive protest in the country” to have her unseated.

The union held a picket outside the gates of Parliament yesterday where it handed over a memorandum to a parliamentary representative.

Less than 20 people took part in the action, however.

On Wednesday, the Constitutional Court ordered the department to explain why it would not meet the March 31 deadline to insource social grant payments.

The ANC has proposed in new policy suggestions that the South African Revenue Service be roped in to assist the National Student Financial Aid Scheme recover money from its former beneficiaries.

The NSFAS has been struggling to recoup money from former student beneficiaries.

In 2016 it announced that it was campaigning to recover R21-billion owed to it by loan recipients, but only managed to get back R200-million of the debt.

The policy documents will be debated by structures of the party ahead of its 2017 National Policy Conference in June.
