The DA says it is trying to speed up an application by President Jacob Zuma and the National Prosecuting Authority to appeal an order that might lead to corruption charges being reinstated against him, the opposition said in Cape Town yesterday.

The charges against Zuma and Thint/Thales were dropped in 2009 just before Zuma was sworn in for his first term as president, but the DA is determined to see him have his day in court over the controversy.

 

The City of Cape Town plans to retract its support for the next State of The Nation Address, calling the use of security "excessive and unnecessary".

This was after parliament doubled the number of road closures for the yearly address on Thursday and 441 South African National Defence Force troops were deployed.

Mayoral Committee member for Safety, JP Smith said Sona was like a cancer.

 

Zimbabwe's protest pastor Evan Mawarire may have vowed not to say too much before his case comes up in court - but he is demanding an apology from the government minister who said he'd skipped bail.

But late on Saturday Mawarire broke his silence, tweeting from his official account demanding an apology from Minister of Information and Communication Technology Collins Mandiwanzira  who said he was arrested for breaching bail conditions.
