President Jacob Zuma says government will look at increasing the R122 000 household income threshold for students needing full National Student Financial Aid Scheme bursaries.

Zuma held his annual State of the Nation Address last night, which was overshadowed by violence, with Cope, the EFF and DA MPs thrown out or walking out in protest.

EFF MPs interrupted Zuma's speech for over an hour, leading to House chairperson Thandi Modise ordering party leader Julius Malema out of the House.

Parliamentary security dressed in white shirts proceeded to bundle the EFF out, and punches were thrown.

 

South African Deputy President and SADC Facilitator Cyril Ramaphosa will today visit Lesotho in pursuance of his mandate to consolidate peace and stability in the Kingdom.

The Presidency said Ramaphosa will review progress made with regard to the implementation of SADC recommendations on constitutional and security sector reforms including the investigation into the death of the late Brigadier Maaparankoe Mahao.

During the visit, the Facilitator who will be supported by several members of the SADC-appointed Oversight Committee will pay a courtesy call on King Letsie III and hold discussions with the Prime Minister Mosisili and members of his coalition government.

 

Xhosa Prince Xhanti Sigcawu has supported his brother King Mphendulo’s stance that former African Union Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma may be too “delicate” to lead the country.

In an interview with a news agency yesterday, Sigcawu said he agreed with King Mphendulo Sigcawu that the country might not be ready for a woman president.

Dlamini Zuma visited Sigcawu’s Nqadu great place near Willowvale on Tuesday.
