DA welcomes Premier Winde’s move for a substantive motion on corrupt municipalities

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde

The DA in the Western Cape welcomes the announcement by Premier Alan Winde in his reply to the State of the Province address on his intention to submit a substantive motion, to launch a full investigation into alleged corruption and mismanagement in municipalities like Knysna, Beaufort West, Kannaland and Theewaterskloof.

The Auditor-General and agencies like Ratings Afrika have consistently rated DA-run municipalities as the best in the country. Despite the overall success in clean governance, there are still a few municipalities in the Western Cape that are not governed by the DA and continue to disappoint in their audit outcomes. Specifically, Beaufort West, Kannaland, and Laingsburg municipalities persist as problematic areas.

Coincidently, all these municipalities are run by the coalition of corruption, which include the ANC, PA, and EFF. These coalitions deprive the residents of service delivery and opportunity.

The DA remains committed to fighting for better governance in these municipalities, striving to ensure that all residents receive the high standard of governance they deserve.

Rectifying South Africa's issues begins at the local government level, and we welcome this announcement by Premier Winde, on his intention to submit a substantive motion on this matter.
