DA to picket outside PRASA offices to demand rail safety

30th January 2019

Today, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng Provincial Leader, John Moodey,  DA Team One SA Spokesperson on Corruption Phumzile Van Damme, and the DA Shadow Minister of Transport Manny De Freitas will lead a picket outside the Headquarters of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

This follows various inspections done by the DA across the country to highlight the state of railways services. On our inspections we met with desperate commuters who confided in us about the risks they face on a daily basis. Unsafe and chronically delayed trains have a direct impact on jobs and the economy.

The plight of train commuters has been ignored for far too long and the DA will therefore hand over a memorandum of demands to PRASA to ensure that the failing ANC gets PRASA’s house in order and prioritise rail safety and the lives of commuters.

Details of the picket are as follows

Venue:  PRASA Headquarters

Address: 1040 Burnett St, Elandspoort 357-Jr, Pretoria, 0028

Date: Wednesday, 30 January 2019

Time: 12:00

There will be an opportunity for interviews and pictures.
