DA to join Cape Town’s Gang and Drug Task Team on patrol

1st October 2018

Today, 1 October 2018, Team One SA Spokesperson on Crime, John Steenhuisen MP, and Mayoral Committee Member of Social Services & Safety and Security, JP Smith, will meet with the Gang and Drug Task Team and join them as they conduct their daily operations.

The Task Team falls under Cape Town’s Metro Police Department and is instrumental in combating gang and narcotics-related crime. The City and the Western Cape Provincial Government have been hard at work fighting crime, despite receiving little institutional support from the national government. The anti-crime operations, some of which are in response to tip-offs from ward councillors and community members, are conducted several times a month with a view to curbing drug dealing and drug use in our communities, as well as cracking down on illegal firearms.

The South African Police Service is failing to keep South Africans safe and crime will continue to rise under the ANC’s leadership. The DA is the only party dedicated to fighting crime and protecting all citizens. South Africans will have a chance to make safer communities a reality by voting for the DA in 2019.

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: Today, 1 October 2018
