DA to conduct oversight inspection of the Delft police station

17th September 2018

Today, Monday 17 September 2018, DA Shadow Minister of Police, Zakhele Mbhele MP, joined by member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Beverley Schäfer, will conduct an oversight inspection of the Delft police station.

This follows the release of shocking crime statistics in which Delft emerged to have a high prevalence of violent crimes due to under-staffing and under-resourcing of Cape Town police stations.

It is an indictment on the national government that 10 out of the 30 police stations in the Western Cape are being reported as “murder stations” with Delft having 1 police officer per 642 residents.

It is a devastating reality that while four more South Africans get murdered daily than a year ago, the failing ANC spends R9.1 million to protect one VIP and only R1 500 per citizen.

Our communities have become war-zones and the failing ANC has no plan to keep the people safe.

Despite our limited mandate the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape government has been pushing for the proper resourcing of the SAPS in the Western Cape.

Right now, however, while our most vulnerable communities suffer daily, it is necessary for the army to be deployed to these communities so that our people can feel safe in their homes and on the streets.

Details of the oversight are as follows:

Date: 17 September 2018
Time: 10:30
Location: Delft Police station
Address: Voorbrug Rd & Delft Main Rd, Delft, Cape Town, 7100

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
