DA to address residents on plans to challenge flawed land process

8th January 2019

Tomorrow, Wednesday 9 January 2019, Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip, John Steenhuisen, joined by Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and Councillors, will address residents in various parts of Gauteng on the party’s planned court challenge of the flawed and rushed Land Expropriation without Compensation Bill in Court.

We believe that Parliament’s Joint Constitutional Review Committee's (CRC) report which recommends that Section 25 of the Constitution be amended to allow land expropriation without compensation has flaws, specifically in relation to the public participation process which is mandated by sections 59, 72 and 118 of the Constitution.

The DA supports individuals’ right to own land, not state ownership of land, which will further entrench poverty and unemployment.
