DA: Statement by Lindiwe Mazibuko, DA Parliamentary Leader, welcomes the decision to send Secrecy Bill back to Parliament (12/09/2013)

12th September 2013

The DA welcomes President Jacob Zuma’s decision to send the Protection of State Information Bill back to Parliament.

This follows the DA’s petition in accordance with section 79 of the Constitution.

In  May this year, DA Leader, Helen Zille and I; members of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill DA MP Dene Smuts and ACDP MP, Steve Swart petitioned the President requesting that he send the Bill back to Parliament.

The Speaker has announced in the National Assembly this afternoon, that the full details of President  Zuma’s referral of the Bill back to Parliament will be published in the  ATC this evening.

Once published, the DA will analyse these details and respond accordingly.

The DA has fought hard to ensure that this Bill, in its current form, is not signed into law and will continue to do so.
