DA: Statement by James Selfe, Chairperson of the DA Federal Executive, on the DA's censorship complaint hearing (15/04/2014)

Following our urgent High Court application this morning, the Democratic Alliance has just received a letter from ICASA informing us that the hearing on our complaint against the SABC will be held at 18h00 this evening.

Just a few hours ago the DA announced that we would approach the Gauteng South High Court for an urgent order to compel ICASA to hear our complaint and to reach a decision without any further delay. ICASA is in clear violation of the regulations, which provide that ICASA should reach a final determination on a complaint like this within 48 hours of receipt. This deadline has already been missed.

We are pleased that ICASA has now decided to move the hearing forward to this evening.  Nevertheless, we are not withdrawing our court application before we get an indication at this evening’s meeting as to when ICASA will give a final decision.

We look forward to getting our Ayisafani advert back on the air.
