Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza has confirmed that social grant files and police uniforms were dumped in Johannesburg last month after the courier services transporting the files from the Northern Cape was hijacked. In her reply to my question on this matter in the Gauteng Legislature, the MEC also indicated that the South African Police Service (SAPS) are investigating. Hundreds of social grant files and police uniforms were found at a dump site behind the Faraday taxi rank in Johannesburg according to a Daily Sun report. These files contain very personal information and are a life line for many South Africans who need the assistance from the South African Social Security Agency to support themselves and their families. The Department needs to ensure that confidential and sensitive material being transported is properly secured and protected. |
