DA: Solly Malatsi congratulates Portia Modise on 100 goal milestone

The DA congratulates Banyana Banyana's leading goal scorer, Portia Modise, for scoring a record 100th goal during yesterday's African Women's Championship against Algeria.

Modise's 100 goals for Banyana Banyana now makes her the all-time leading goals scorer across all football national teams in South Africa.

This accomplishment is made even more profound by the fact that she achieved it despite a 3 year break from the national team between 2008 and 2011.

Portia Modise's consistent goal scoring exploits for Banyana Banyana have elevated her to the special group of South Africa's finest football legends like Ace Ntsoelengoe, Doctor Khumalo, and Benni McCarthy.

Her other achievements such as the nominations for CAF Footballer of year accolades, FIFA World's Best Female Player and the only South African female player to score a goal at the Olympic Games are a testament of her incredible football talent.

She continues to excel as a phenomenal ambassador for the professionalisation of female football in South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world.

She was one of few senior Banyana Banyana players who previously fought for prompt payment of match fees and better benefits for players.

We hope that her unprecedented achievements with Banyana Banyana will persuade local football authorities to take female national teams footballers seriously by improving their current match fees.
