DA: Phumzile van Damme says Motsoeneng has until 4pm today to comply with suspension

Hlaudi Motsoeneng

The Democratic Alliance has written to the legal representatives of the SABC and Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng, giving them until 4pm today to give effect to the court-ordered suspension of Motsoeneng from the office of COO of the SABC.

Should Mr Motsoeneng and the SABC’s legal representatives elect to ignore this reasonable deadline, the DA will file contempt of court papers in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Yesterday the Supreme Court of Appeal upheld a Western Cape High Court decision that Mr Motsoeneng should be suspended pending an independently-run disciplinary hearing. That order was handed down at 11:00 yesterday, and yet Mr Motsoeneng is still in office at this point in time.

The DA has received no confirmation of any intention to appeal this order, nor received any appeal papers, and therefore the order stands.

Hlaudi Motsoeneng has now been ordered out of office by two competent Courts, and Mr Motsoeneng can no longer run away from legal realities.
