The Democratic Alliance in North West will ask the Public Protector to urgently investigate new evidence that the ANC are using state resources to campaign.

Last week, the ANC took to the streets of Montshioa Township in Mahikeng announcing to residents that they will be giving away free R50 electricity tokens. People were also told to bring their water bills with the promise of debt relief.

This comes a week after they promised residents of Danville that their water and electricity bills will be scrapped if they vote for the ANC.

Illegally using state resources to secure votes shows how desperate the ANC have become.

The ANC seems to only realise the plight of our communities during election times.

The DA fully supports measures of alleviating poverty and bringing much needed relief to our residents. We however believe that communities need long term and sustainable programmes to overcome these challenges. The ANC’s quick fixes come election time is immoral and illegal.

The DA is the only party that will bring change by providing better services to all residents of the province through a responsive and accessible local government.
