DA Leader Maimane to outline Recession Recovery Plan

10th September 2018

Today, Monday, 10 September 2018, Democratic Alliance Leader Mmusi Maimane, will outline the party’s Recession Recovery Plan following the announcement this week by Statistic South Africa (StatSA) that our economy is now in a technical recession.

We cannot continue along the same path that has brought us to this point. That is why Parliament will on Wednesday debate ideas on how to revive our economy following my request to do so. There is hope for our country and its economy, and we require fresh and alternative ideas that can ignite growth and get our economy up and running again.

South Africans are getting poorer and poorer under the ANC government. This year alone, we’ve witnessed.

Unemployment reaching its highest level since the dawn of democracy with almost 10 million jobless South Africans
VAT increasing for the first time in 20 years, a direct financial assault on the poor, working and middle classes
The highest income tax bracket increasing for the 3rd consecutive year
The rand at a 27 month low, its weakest value since June 2016.
South Africa needs leadership that will grow our economy and create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. We must work towards reducing the unemployment rate, especially among our young people and deliver the much needed service delivery to the people of South Africa.

The Leader will be joined by DA National Spokesperson, Refiloe Nt’sekhe.

Details of the briefing are as follows:

Date: 10 September 2018

Time: 11:00

Venue: Nkululeko House, Bruma
