DA: John Moodey says only the DA has a real land reform programme of action

The DA condemns the illegal land invasions that have taken place across Gauteng as part of the EFF’s permanent land occupation programme.

We call on the Gauteng Police Commissioner to take urgent action against those who violating the rule of through land grabs.

The DA is opposed to illegal land occupation, in the same way that we oppose land expropriation without compensation. We are the only major party that wants South Africans to own the land they live on.

The EFF and ANC do not want South Africans to own land. They merely want our people to be tenants, renting land from the government.

These land grabs are nothing short of political posturing of the worst kind and show the EFF’s blatant disregard for the rule of law and the Constitution. This all while Ramaphosa and the ANC sit idle.

The debate and actions around land reform need to be conducted in a constructive and responsible manner. The land reform debate must always be about empowering the people, especially the poor.

Property rights and ownership are fundamental to development, and economic growth and inclusivity.

The DA wants black people to own land, we want all South Africans to hold title deeds and own the land they live on. We stand behind land reform that ensures property and land ownership for the people not the state.
