In a recent oversight visit, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality was dismayed to discover severe vandalism at the old social development offices in Ward 40. Despite community members expressing a desire to utilise the offices for various projects, governmental permission was denied.

The estimated cost of the damage, as reported by community members, stands at approximately R1.5 million. It's worth noting that the building, erected in the late '80s by the Bophuthatswana government, initially cost around R5.8 million.

This unfortunate incident highlights a recurring issue of neglected infrastructure that could significantly benefit the community, a responsibility the ANC-led Metro appears to have overlooked. The vandalism not only represents a loss of historical and community value but also incurs a significant financial burden, hindering potential community projects. The community's aspirations to repurpose the building for various initiatives are thwarted, impacting their well-being and progress.

We will actively engage with the council to understand and influence plans for the restoration and constructive use of the old social development building in Ward 40. We aim to ensure that this valuable community resource is revitalized and employed for the betterment of the residents.
