We welcome the fact that the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, will request Commissioner Tom Moyane to provide him with a full report on the “hostage drama” at the South African Revenue Service.

Responding to my question on the incident, the minister stated that although he had heard “whispers”, he had not received a “formal report” from the South African Revenue Service. The minister also stated that,  “if this is true, it is totally unacceptable behavior”.

It is shocking that nine days after such a serious incident, the minister had not received a formal report from the South African Revenue Service.

We need to get to the bottom of this matter and for that reason I will submit a parliamentary question probing the facts surrounding the “hostage drama” at the South African Revenue Service.
