DA: DA calls on City of Matlosana to account why they bought worthless land for R54 million

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will table a motion of investigation after the City of Matlosana bought a worthless piece of land for R54 million.

The land in question is a portion of the farm Goedgenoeg number IPR 433 Portion 22. This land is adjacent to the Schoonspruit on the east side of Kanana and next to the Old Landfill Site.

According to the Title Deed it was sold to Specialist Income (Pty) Ltd for R1,5 million by a former local business man in 2009.
In 2014 it was sold to Universal Pulse Trading 367 Pty Ltd for R3 million.
Now it was bought by the City of Matlosana in March 2018 for a staggering R54 million.
The ANC needs to explain to our communities why they bought land that is laying beyond the flood line. During the rainy season, this area is affected by both the flooding of the Vaal River and Schoonspruit and makes inhabitable.

Furthermore, the maximum income the land can generate will only be R2 300 per year as the area is only suitable for the grazing of eight heads of cattle.

Just across this expensive land lies an area that already belongs to the City Council of Matlosana, being known as the Old Orkney Airstrip. The City of Matlosana could have invested the R54 million here to develop a proper suburb with services.

This once again proves that the ANC is not fit to govern the people of the city or to manage the people’s money in a transparent and responsible manner.

The DA stands ready to usher in a government that will root out corruption, promote good governance and ensure that the people’s money is spent on service delivery and not on vanity projects.
