DA calls on Minister Mantashe to name petrol stations in Western Cape selling fake diesel

Minister of Mineral Resource and Energy Gwede Mantashe

The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape expresses deep concern over the findings of a Governmental Probe, which revealed that four petrol stations in the province are engaged in the illicit practice of selling watered-down diesel mixed with illuminated paraffin.

An investigation by the Department of Mineral Resource and Energy has uncovered that 70 petrol stations across the country are selling dodgy diesel fuels to customers. This alarming discovery poses a serious threat to vehicle engines, potentially causing significant mechanical problems.

The act of blending fuels not only jeopardizes the safety of vehicles but also constitutes illegal and fraudulent activity that exploits consumers financially.

MPP Derrick America said: “Minister Gwede Mantashe must ensure these petrol stations are named so that residents of the Western Cape can be made aware of the stations that are selling fake diesel.

Not only are these fake diesel fuels being sold at the exact same price as approved diesel fuels, but could be very harmful to vehicles. We need to protect consumers from such hazardous and deceptive practices, ensuring the well-being of both their vehicles and finances.”
