COSATU sends well wishes to all members of the Muslim community on Eid Mubarak. This period of the fast has characterised a period of sacrifice and reaffirmation of our humanity.

COSATU also condemns the statement of the Mayor as being hypocritical, in relation to the month of Ramadan and the challenges in Gaza. The Mayor has ignored the Muslim community in the time of crisis when many of their brothers and sisters were attacked in Gaza. While the brutality of the Israeli army in Gaza is not a religious conflict, all peace loving people have supported the Palestinians.

The Mayor must act in keeping with the spirit of Ramadaan, not only come with empty words.
