COSATU: Premier Zille’s trip to China - tax payer funded holiday and a waste of money

Helen Zille

The recent trip of a delegation from the Western Cape was a complete waste of public funds and glorified holiday for the Premier and her friends. This trip to China has not led to any investments in the Western Cape and just confirmed that the Wesgro is a duplication of National areas as it relates to International Investments. This waste of money is confirmed by the appointment of CEO of Wesgro, who was embarrassed on National television by Minister Patel and when he could not return to Parliament, a job was created for him in the City of Cape Town.  Premier Zille was largely ignored by senior Chinese government officials in China and was snubbed on two occasions.

The Premier and Wesgro have been deceiving the people of the Western Cape by claiming that the Hi Sense Investment in Atlantis was as a result of their efforts. This is clearly not true as Hi Sense and many of the other Chinese companies have made the investments related to the National Government interventions and Minister Patel and Davies.

Clearly the R50m advertising budget of the Western Cape Government is being used to try and lie to people about the reasons the economy is growing in Cape Town. Now in addition to the R50m waste of money to promote the Premier’s lies, they are wasting money to go to China on a holiday.

This Province not only employs incompetent Harris, this being only the tip of the ice berg in relation to the employment of whites that are all clearly incompetent. The Western Cape and the City of Cape Town is sheltered employment of whites much like South Africa was under Apartheid.
