Cosatu in Gauteng welcomes the good news that majority of the Departments in the Province had received the clean audits from the Auditor General. We congratulate our members, the various HOD’s, MEC’s and the Premier for this sterling work of ensuring that there financial accountability and compliance in the province.

The provincial leadership under the stewardship of Cde David Makhura needs to be commended for ensuring that the provincial departments strengthen their financial controls.

We are hoping that this improvement and fiscal prudence will also be cascaded down to municipalities, and we can have proper governance and responsible management of our scarce resources.

It is also encouraging to see that steps that were taken by the departments in 2009, including an audit plan has yielded results.

The province has made serious strides to rid the province of corruption and wasteful expenditure. We hope that they will continue on this path, and we shall continue to be constructive partners in the fight against graft and wasteful expenditure.
